Childrens!
We are doing an activity called “Constructing the State.” This activity entails 3 things:
1. In your group, discuss the necessary components to a good society, state, government, etc.
2. Read your assigned political philosopher and then prepare for a presentation on their state that will include the following:
-Their main political beliefs
-Their theory of human nature
-Objections to their political system
-How they would respond to those objections
3. Compare/contrast your state with the state of your assigned political philosopher. This means that your group will have to construct your own ideal political arrangement and compare/contrast it with the political philosopher you were assigned.
REMEMBER THAT EVERY MEMBER OF THE GROUP MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE PRESENTATION AND THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TEACHING US ABOUT THESE DIFFERENT POLITICAL THEORIES. DON’T FORGET TO GATHER INFORMATION FROM SECONDARY SOURCES
READINGS:
MARX (PREAMBLE/CH.1)
ROUSSEAU (Sections 1-3, 6-8)
LOCKE
HOBBES (Ch.13 and 17)
